Anxiety
Anxiety interventions can focus on strengthening coping skills in the face of worry, creating space for relaxation, and developing confidence to take on new challenges. Building our tolerance for feeling anxious or holding space to explore its meaning can be very effective. Facing fears can often lead to feeling liberated.
Depression
According to the World Health Organization, 300+ million people world wide suffer from depression. Effective treatments often include accurate assessment, medical intervention and psychological support. Counselling provides space to talk about the hard things in life, with the goal of finding motivation for living and a drive towards meaning. Interventions can help to bolster coping strategies, foster a more positive mindset, increase energy and get reconnected with meaning and purpose.
Stress
Stress is a normal part of life, and in small amounts it keeps us motivated and moving. However – too much stress is damaging to our health, productivity and well being. Stress can be managed by understanding the source, perhaps reducing demands, rejigging priorities, bolstering coping mechanisms and/or changing our mindset. Counselling can help you achieve these goals.
Trauma
I take a trauma-informed approach to therapy to support clients in identifying their strengths. I believe that we have personal power to heal and thrive, although I also recognize that success and wellness are impacted by things outside of our control including systemic barriers, trauma, privilege, and access to resources. I know we can untwist ourselves from the trauma we’ve survived and learn strategies to move forward in meaningful ways.
Booking a Keynote Presentation
“Janet is delightful as a keynote speaker. Easy to work with, flexible in her approach, and willing to adapt to the needs of your audience”. Presentations use strong visual elements and her style is warm and engaging. All of her work is research-supported and as a speaker she is highly entertaining. She’ll make you laugh, but she’ll also leave you with a lot to think about. Janet is accepting speaker invitations for Fall 2024 (and onwards).
